Dec 8, 2007

  • A new version of UOAssist.dll has been posted.  More info on the Updates page.
  • If you are running Vista make sure you right click on UOAssist and select 'Run as administrator.
  • Some of you are wondering why it took so long.
    •  The day the UO patch was posted I did my normal startup and patch UO then login to see if I got the data stream error.  I didn't which I thought that is odd because the version of the client did change and 99% of the time that means the encryption key changed.  But I brushed it off since I didn't get an error(mistake 1).
    • Over the holiday I got a few emails saying they were getting the data stream error so I calculated what the key should be and posted the information on the update server so all would get it.  I also tried UO again myself with the new data and still got no error so I figured all was well(mistake 2).
    • I replied to some of the people that emailed about the data stream error but I got mixed results.  Some said the error was gone and others said they still had problems.  Since I wasn't getting the error I figured the people having problems were having problems getting updates or saving the updated data.
    • Due to UOAssist not putting up the data stream error I had not actually run a debug version or looked at the data stream.
    • After emailing back and forth a few times trying to track down what I figured just a few peoples 'updating' problems things didn't seem 'right' enough that I took a look at the data stream and found EA had made changes to the key (as expected during a client update) and also the initial handshaking down with the login server (unexpected and confused UOAssist enough that it didn't report errors for me).
  • NOTE: UOAssist will be back to saving settings in the 'normal' directory structure again.  So if you created new macros or changed settings you may have to do it again, sorry for the confusion.

  • Still looking into the UO:KR changes that concern UOAssist.  Some progress has been made but a new version of UOAssist is being considered.
  • A survey to get a feel of interest in UO:KR with UOAssist has been put up.  Please take a little time to answer it. Survey link.

June 25, 2007

  • New versions of UOAssist.exe and UOAssist.dll have been posted.  More info on the Updates page.

  • On UO:KR - The beta client is being looked at currently.  It is different enough that it will require major changes to UOAssist.  More information will be posted on what will happen with UOAssist on UO:KR in the coming weeks.

  • Info for Vista users -

    • On Vista even when you are logged in as an administrator it does NOT run programs as though you are administrator.  This is good for security but can be troublesome for programs, including UOAssist, that update themselves.

    • UOAssist will fail to install and/or update if installed into the default location (C:\program files\uoassist) because of changes in Vista.  You can overcome this by right clicking on the UOAssist icon and choose 'Run As Administrator' option.  To avoid problems with future update you can install UOAssist somewhere like c:\uoassist.  Even if you do install UOAssist to a different location you will need to use the 'Run As Administrator' option during the initial installation.

    • After installing you could right click on the UOAssist icon and choose properties.  Then on the shortcut tab press the Advanced button.  On the dialog it brings up you can check the 'Run as administrator' option.  Then every time you start UOAssist it will be able to correctly update itself if needed.  This is totally optional and just presented for your information.

    • Bottom line is UOAssist was designed way before Vista specs were out so it doesn't work as one might expect/desire.  But you can use UOAssist on Vista with just a little extra effort during install and update days.

Jan 30, 2007

  • Recently a number of emails have been received wondering about UO:KR and UOAssist.  The plan is for UOAssist to support UO:KR.  Shortly after the announcement of UO:KR EA was been contacted and they have said access to the UO:KR beta would be granted when the beta milestone is reached.  Right now that is about all there is to say.  Until UO:KR can be tested on details are unknown.  They did not have a timeframe available at the time and even if they did it probably would not be allowed to share it.

Nov 27, 2006

  • Sorry for the downtime.  I went out of town for the holidays and the firewall decided to take a vacation as well it seems.  Since the firewall was down I was unable to do anything to correct the situation remotely.  'Rebooting' the firewall would only get it going for about 30 seconds before it 'died' again.  Once back in town I was able to correct the problem (hardware) and everything should be back going again.

Aug 17, 2006

  • If you are running Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 2003 server and are getting the error "Corrupted Data or Unsupported OS" you probably have UOAssist.exe set to run in a 'Compatibility' mode which is causing the error.  To turn that off do the following.

  • If you have an UOAssist icon on your desktop right click on it and select Properties.  Then click the Compatibility tab.  At the top make sure the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' option is OFF.

  • Or Using Windows Explorer navigate to your UOAssist directory (default is: C:\Program Files\UOAssist).  Right click on the UOAssist.exe file (it will have the red UOA icon).  Select Properties and then click the Compatibility tab.  At the top make sure the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' option is OFF.

  • NOTE:  UOAssist has been updated to work even when it is running in a compatibility mode and a future update will contain that change.

Aug 2, 2006

  •  Posted new UOAssist.exe and UOAssist.dll files.  More info on the Updates page.

  • If you were automatically updated to a version that is incompatible with your Operating System yesterday you will have to manually update UOAssist.exe.

    • Save THIS UOASSIST.EXE to your current UOAssist directory (default location is: C:\Program Files\UOAssist).

    • You can right click on the link above and select 'Save Target As'.  Then using the dialog that opens navigate to your UOAssist directory and save it.  When you restart UOAssist it will get the new uoassist.dll automatically for you.  Sorry for any trouble it caused you.

Aug 1, 2006

  • 8pm update - Machines running Vista will still have a problem.  The problem has been located and fixed but is waiting for testing on a couple more machines that are running 64 bit versions of XP and Vista.  If you are running Vista UOAssist doesn't detect it properly and will cause an error on loading.

  • A problem on Win9x systems was found in the original update.  While UOAssist is no longer tested on Win9x machines, the goal is to is to keeping working on them.  Another update has been posted that will overcome the compatibility problem the original patch encountered.  But those Win9x users that upgraded and can not get UOAssist to load (getting the error about the missing function in kernel32.dll) will need to manually update.

  •  Posted new UOAssist.exe and UOAssist.dll files.  More info on the Updates page.

  •  Posted a new UOAssist.dll.  More info on the Updates page.

  • Also posted a new Japanese language module (uoassist.jpn).

Jan 14, 2006

  • Posted a new UOAssist.exe.  It just has the latest version of UpdateAce.dll in it.

  • UpdateAce.dll used to have 2 sizes it would become depending on screen resolution.  Yesterdays update added a 3rd size that was causing trouble for a few people.  This version is better at picking its size for the screen it is running on.

Jan 13, 2006

  • Posted a new UOAssist.exe.  It just has the latest version of UpdateAce.dll in it.

Jan 5, 2006

  • A couple of reports of macros causing an UOAssist error message to appear have been received.  So far it hasn't been able to be reproduced here which is making it hard to find the cause.  If you are seeing a message of an error at location 53 when you play a macro and would like to help track the problem down more please email uoassist@tugsoft.com.  A test UOAssist.dll will be sent to you that will help narrow down where the trouble is happening within UOAssist.  Thanks

Sept 2, 2005

  • Posted another new UOAssist.dll.  More info on the Updates page.

  • There are still things that need fixing because of changes on the servers but this will be the last update until mid/late next week at the earliest.

Sept 2, 2005

  • Posted a new UOAssist.dll.  More info on the Updates page.

  • NOTE:  The UO login servers are having problems or connection trouble.  You not being able to log in is because of that trouble not because of UOAssist (try it without UOAssist running to verify this).

Sept 1, 2005

  • A 2nd test UOAssist.dll has been posted on the updater.  It adds the following fixes

    1. Tithing amount shows correctly.

    2. Logs CAN (don't always) stack near you if option is on.  So far just normal logs work.

Sept 1, 2005

  • A test UOAssist.dll has been posted on the updater.  It should correct the following trouble

    1. Recycle agent wasn't working (smelt and repair portions).

    2. Menu selections in macros not working or taking a very long time.

    3. Spellweaving wasn't in skill list.

  • To try the test UOAssist.dll out press the Settings button at the bottom right of the UOAssist update/news page.  Then set it to check for test releases.  You'll then need to restart UOAssist before it will make the check.  When test releases are available an extra option will appear asking if you'd like to download the test release.

  • You should NOT have to re-record your macros that have menu selections in them.  If you find your macros (that worked before the ML updates) that have menu selections are NOT working after getting the test release please email with a description of what the macro is suppose to do and what is happening.  Thanks

Aug 31, 2005

  • Quick update on progress.  There should be a test release posted tomorrow that will get dialog functions working again.  This includes the recycle agent features and macros that have menu selections in them.  More will be posted when it is ready.  If enough prayers get answered you might not have to re-record your macros that have menu selection in them but no promises at this point.

Aug 30, 2005

  • With the latest UO updates a few things are broken.  Anything that uses a menu selection (or dialog) will not work until UOAssist is updated again.  This includes macros with menu selection in them and the recycle agent.  It is being worked on currently.  When it is fixed you'll have to re-record any macros you have that have menu selections in them because of the changes to UO.

Aug 29, 2005

  • Posted a new UOAssist.dll (a few days ago).  More info on the Updates page.

July 19, 2005  6:15pm MST

  • Tugsoft's internet connections have been down for about 17 hours.  One connection is finally back up and hopefully the other will be soon as well.  Sorry for any trouble this has caused.

May 10, 2005

  • Posted a new UOAssist.dll.  A problem was discovered that poison status still was not showing when using the numeric display mode.

May 9, 2005

  • Posted a new files.  More info on the Updates page.

  • NOTE:  You must update both UOAssist.exe and UOAssist.dll.

  • NOTE:  The new potions 'look' the same as some current potions (like nightsight) to UOAssist.

May 5, 2005

  • Posted a test UOAssist.exe.  Some people have been having trouble where the UO Update screen would disappear but the UOPatch.exe process didn't actually exit.  This causes UOAssist to seem like it hanged as it was waiting for UOPatch.exe to exit fully.  Now UOAssist will watch for the UO Update screen to see when it disappears and if the process doesn't exit within 4 seconds UOAssist will terminate it and continue on.  You also can manually terminate the UOPatch.exe process if you are having this 'hang' problem.

  • NOTE on the above problem.  A method to reproduce this problem has never been found.  In 'simulated' testing the work around code functions correctly and the hope is it will for those with the actual problem.  If you have the problem please get this test version (look at May 4th notes for info on getting test versions) and email UOAssist@tugsoft.com with a short note explaining if it helped you or not.  Thanks

  • UPDATE - A new test UOAssist.dll has been posted so curse, mortal and poison all are different colors on the UOAssist info bar.  Know that if you are 'mortaled' and curse both and mortal expires first it will appear as though the curse lifted as well.  This is just a limitation of the data that the client receives and happens to the UO status bar as well.

May 4, 2005

  • Publish 32 has changed how the client gets poison status so UOAssist is not showing that currently.  It is being investigated.

  • If you have a translator (UOAssist addon) installed you may find you have trouble with guild and alliance chat.  This problem has been found and fixed and once the poison bug is fixed an update will be posted.

  • UPDATE- A test UOAssist.dll has been posted which should correct the problems mentioned above.  If you press the Settings button at the bottom right of the UOAssist update/news screen you can set UOAssist to check for test releases.  After setting it to check for test releases restart UOAssist and when a test release is available an extra button appear at the bottom right of the update/news page that will allow you to get the test release if you desire.

Apr 18, 2005

  • Sorry for the huge delay in getting the update out for the latest client update.

  • Posted a new UOAssist.dll.  More info on the Updates page.

  • Also fixed the dates on the updates page that were in the future.

Nov 5, 2004

  • Posted new versions of UOAssist.exe and UOAssist.dll.  More info on the Updates page.

  • NOTE:  If you run a personal firewall on your machine you may need to grant UOAssist.exe permission to access the internet again.

Oct 9, 2004

  • Posted a test UOAssist.dll.  It may help with system messages not appearing when you have UOAssist set to change text color.

Sept 17, 2004

  • Posted new UOAssist exe & dll files.  More info on the Updates page.

  • VERY IMPORTANT:  This update includes an update to UOAssist.exe.  If you are running a personal firewall you will most likely have to grant UOAssist permission to access the internet again.  If you don't you'll probably start getting error telling you that the update server was not reachable.  After a number of failed attempts UOAssist will disable itself UNTIL you successfully connect to the update server again.

Sept 16, 2004

  • Posted a new test UOAssist.exe.  OSI/EA gave permission to include support for the UO:SE beta clients in UOAssist so it has been added.  Now you can easily select the beta clients as the programs for UOAssist to launch.

Sept 15, 2004

  • Posted test UOAssist.exe and UOAssist.dll files. - main fix is for the 'old' load method.

  • NOTE: - If you run a personal firewall on your machine you may have to give permission to UOAssist to access the internet again because UOAssist.exe changed.

Sept 13, 2004

  • Posted a test UOAssist.dll (only available via updater) which does the following:

    • Fixes 'delay' problems some people noticed and reported.  The 'delay' is when UOAssist is trying to do something but it doesn't happen until you move in game.

    • Fixes target self problems.  This is still being tested but appears to fix the reported problems (target self was not working with some spells such as arch cure).

    • Fixes bandage timer problems.  The bandage timer was not stopping, until it timed out at 30 seconds, under certain conditions.

  • A fix for the 'old' load method is also in progress.  More test versions should become available as the week progresses.

Sept 3, 2004

  • The recent update to UO is causing trouble for the 'old' load method of UOAssist.  If you are having trouble with UO exiting shortly after starting up please use the 'default' load method of UOAssist.  To change that setting press the Settings button at the bottom right corner of UOAssist's update/news page.

June 19, 2004

  • Posted a new UOAssist.dll.  More info on the Updates page.

  • A few emails with problems concerning target self and arch cure have been received.  No solution is in today's update but it is being looked into and more information will be posted as the problem is discovered.

Old News Here

Public Trial Version available --  Get it Now!

Please double check your email address(es) on any forms you fillout.   If it is incorrect I have no way of contacting you.

The trial period is provided so you can try UOAssist for a limited time to decide if you want to purchase it or not.  Generally the trial period is 7-14 days, it varies throughout the week as I adjust for weekends and such.  It normally will include a weekend and only one trial is given out per game account.

Thanks for your interest in UOAssist.   If you would like to read about what it can do try looking in the features area or the help area

Be sure to visit the Updates area to get the latest patch.

Win a free 'Normal' version of UOAssist.  If you are the first one to find and provide steps to reproduce (and Tugsoft must also be able to use your steps to reproduce) a bug in the latest version of UOAssist that causes a lockup (and does not running UO without UOAssist) you will receive a free 'Normal' version of UOAssist.  If you do find such a bug send a note to: UOAssist@tugsoft.com.    This is a limited time offer and available to the first person to meet the above requirements.   Some observations about the lockup.  Seems to always happen during combat or soon after.  Arming or disarming are involved many times but not always, sometimes casting spells, and sometimes just talking.  If you can find a way to reproduce the problem and be the first one to do so with the latest patch you will win a free copy of UOAssist 'Normal' version.  (NOTE: So far three people have won a free normal version.  The problems have been corrected.)

If you are interested in trying UOAssist you'll need to download it and install it.  Then register it to activate its features.

Further questions can be sent to UOAssist@tugsoft.com.
